Every good fan film has at least one film that can say "you define." Good for her style or because they identify with any of the characters ... or because it considers that if he were a filmmaker, had made a movie about the same.
In my case, this marvel of modern Japanese film called "Versus" is the film that best defines me. Anyone who knows me will know that a cover showing a guy on his back, wearing a black trench coat sword least call my attention. But let's see what this is.
Debut Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura (the guy who was responsible for giving the settlement Godzilla in "Godzilla: Final Wars)," Versus "is very successful as its title indicates, the historical struggle between the protagonist and antagonist, hero and villain, yin and yang: two souls condemned to face, simply because that is their nature. That is all. Do not expect complex plot twists, or philosophical discussions about the existence, not even a minimal character development. This film is training, showmanship, bravado and pure action.
Let's look at the argument: There are 666 portals to hell all over the globe. He who does The number 444 is in a mysterious Japanese forest they call "The Forest of Resurrection." Our protagonist, the prisoner KSC2-303 and his partner, newly escaped from prison and fleeing their persecutors are inept in their bones in this forest.
From here, we have zombies, yakuza, "ghosts", pistols, machine guns, katanas, martial arts, "most haunted", samurais, the typical "helpless damsel" that serves as an excuse for confrontation served our two protagonists, a cool hero, a villain even more cool, an epic duel ... and, of course, "even ghosts."
With a low budget and limited acting ability, Versus perfectly achieved its purpose: to entertain and "molar" and movies with many more millions are not able. No major Matrix-style visual tricks, Kitamura achieved a near perfect fight, practically taken out of any good fighting game. Without a script full of twists complex philosophical or moral considerations (like most writers try to do now) we Kitamura manages to convey a thought, quite simply, what they mean good and bad, two sides of same coin . Without great actors, this movie has characters who, although not given a name (true), are fairly well defined and aesthetics almost perfect.
Yes, it can be noted well that I love this movie. I've lost count of how many times I've seen many times .. or do it again. If you like good action movies, simple but that also have "something more" is quite possible that this film is to you at least curious. It also has one of the most perfect endings I've ever seen ... quite difficult to achieve with the times. Unfortunately, the only way to get this masterpiece is via import and, of course, English subtitled Japanese. It is curious that, with other titles Kitamura folded and removed for sale, as infumable Azumi, yet no one has decided to bring Versus. "Things sidewalks, Sancho."
Until next time.
